A Peek into Little Mojave Nature Days...
When we are at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, we greet the morning by “rising with the sun” and greet one another by “singing with our hearts”. Then, we “walk on the earth” and head out on our canopy covered hike to explore the wonder of the preserve. We often see many animals and animal homes while passing the myriad seasonal plant offerings the oasis provides.
Our journey leads us to our favorite friend, the “Climbing Tree.” Once we are there, we gather for our shared snack. Together we sing our blessing and following snack... we play! At this magical Mesquite, imaginations come alive. We have seen this special tree transform into many things; from a pirate ship, to a cafe, to a community of homes. It is also a place where children learn to explore their limits and trust their bodies.
Before we leave, we take a moment for “sit spots”. Each child finds their own space for stillness and inner quiet. They are invited to use their five senses to observe through stillness. Once our time of quiet is finished, children are invited to share what offerings the Mojave gave for them to observe. Maybe they saw a little bunny hopping out of its hiding place, or heard busy buzzing bees dancing around the mesquite flowers, or felt the sunlight shining onto their skin by the dappled light.
Beyond the climbing tree, we head back to our gathering place for lunch. Here we chat, enjoy stories, and share our favorite parts of the day. Once lunch is finished, we enjoy free play as we wait for our parents for pickup.
Another magical day in nature comes to an end as we look forward to gathering again next week!
